storm’s night: |

nel gorgo profondo, |
into deep whirlpool, |
|
nelle tremende
onde, |
into dreadful waves, |
|
nei rivolgenti
rivoli burrascosi, |
into overturning stormy streams, |
|
che
si richiusero su di loro. |
they closed again over them. |

Il padre,
prevenendo la tempesta, |
The father,
anticipating the storm, |

volle avvisare
gl'ignari figli: |
wanted to advise
unaware sons: |

una telefonata
arrivata troppo tardi, |
a ring was reached
too late, |

i
loro corpi inanimati |
their inanimate bodies |

ormai giacevano
|
were already dying |
|
sul fondo del mare: |
on
the bottom of the sea: |

quel mare che fu la
mia terra natia, |
that sea was my native land, |

che sempre rallegra |
which always it
gladdens |

i
miei ricordi infantili, |

childhood memories, |

da cui nascevano
stelle, |
from which were
born stars, |

che esplodevano in
cielo: |

adesso, sono certo, due stelle |

sono nate dal mare |

e s'innalzano verso
